Parent’s role in Cub Scouting
Our pack consists of dedicated families whose goal is to spend more time together to teach/learn life skills to our children as a family all while doing indoor and outdoor activities together. Our pack consists of two-parent, single parent, foster families and the list goes on.  All leaders involved with the pack are dedicated parents just like you.  We need you to volunteer your  time and talent to help our pack grow. Pack events cannot happen without you.

As a new parent you are encouraged to consider becoming a den leader or an assistant den leader. Den leaders are parents who volunteer to lead their son and several other scouts in the same grade/rank and host small group meetings together (called den meetings). The Den Leader’s Resource Guide has every meeting planned for you. Our pack also consists of a committee of volunteers who help plan pack activities.

Uniforms – All Cub Scouts and Registered Leaders are  encouraged to be in uniform at all scout functions. We also have pack t-shirts available to purchase.

Pack and Dens – Once your son is registered he will be assigned to a den. A den consists of a group of 8 to 10 boys who meet weekly or biweekly (depending on the den leader’s schedule) to work on his rank requirements.

The Pack consists of all the dens and their families. Pack 401 meets monthly and for special events. The Pack serves as a “parent” organization to the dens and provides direction and program support of cub scouts. The Pack is led by the Cubmaster and the Pack Committee but the scouts participate in and lead all pack meetings along with the cubmaster and other leaders. Parent volunteers lead all special pack events.

Pack meeting dates are listed on the Pack Calendar. Click on the above calendar tab

Pack Meetings – Monthly Pack meetings are typically held on the third Thursday of each month at 6:30pm at First United Methodist Church in the Fellowship Hall. The Pack meetings give the boys a chance to demonstrate the skills they have learned and receive awards they’ve earned. The entire family is welcomed and encourage to attend.

Den Meetings– Den meetings are scheduled by each den’s leader. Den’s usually meet twice a month. Your son’s den leader will provide more information.

Pack Program Highlights – Pack 401 plans a very busy calendar year. Although we don’t expect every boy to attend every function, we encourage him to be as active as he (and his parents) want to be. Pack outings and special events will be led by two or more parent volunteers. Medical/Health History forms are required for all persons attending any special overnight event or camp out.  Visit our website calendar to keep up with the program.

Fundraising – The main fundraisers are the sale of Popcorn in the Fall and Camp Cards in the spring. Prizes are awarded to top sellers. Funds generated by helps defray Pack and Scout expenses for the year. All boys are strongly encouraged to participate.

Scouts have annual dues of $65-$80 each year. Fundraising is designed to help each scout earn his dues for the next scout year. Dues include registration with the boy Scouts of America, unit insurance, patches, beltloops, some awards and an annual subscription to Boys Life Magazine.

Advancement procedures – Den leaders should turn in advancements at each monthly leaders meeting (typically the first Tuesday of the month). Parents, please plan to contact your den leader before the Leaders meeting to ensure your son receives his awards at the next pack meeting. Parents are responsible for tracking their son’s achievements.

I have a son that is 10 and will turn 11 in Dec. He has not participated in cub scouts at all. He is homeschooled due to medical problems and would be classified 5th grade this fall. Which group would he fall into, Cub Scouts or Boy Scouts? Since Cub Scouts end after 5th grade should we wait and start him in Boy Scouts?

    Thanks,

    Rick Ledford
